Kids can Become Captain for a Day on Costa Cruises

Do you dream of working on a cruise ship?

For children that sail on cruise holidays, becoming the captain of a cruise ship may sound a fascinating and enticing career path.

Costa Cruises is now offering children the chance to trial a career at sea by becoming a captain for a day aboard two of its ships: Costa Diadema and Costa Fascinosa.

Packages span three different price points.

Aspirante Comandante / Captain Trainee package

Price: €49.99 ( £43) for the first child, €29.99 ( £26) for each child thereafter.

All captains need to look the part, so the first step is donning a pint-sized white uniform. Budding captains will undergo rigorous training which includes learning about various nautical terms, flags, how to navigate using a map and a compass, and about the weather and its impact at sea.

Participants then sit at the Captain’s Table for the children's dinner in the main restaurant.

At the end of the experience, they will need to hand back their uniform but will receive a Certificate of Achievement/Completion and two 20cm x 30cm photographs.

Comandante / Captain package

Price: €79.99 ( £69) for the first child, €49.99 ( £43) for each child thereafter.

This package builds on the Captain Trainee package. It includes a souvenir Captain’s hat autographed by the master that children can take home with them. Children will receive two 20cm x 30cm prints plus two 30cm x 45cm photographs.

Comandante Superiore / Senior Captain package

Price: €124.99 ( £107) for the first child, €60 ( £52) for each child thereafter.

The top tier experience includes everything above with one notable bonus: children get to keep their Captain's uniform!
