Spain

Spain is a rare country to find on mini cruise itineraries from the UK.

It is mainly seen on longer Mediterranean itineraries, but occasionally Iberian ports of call appear on upcoming plans.

Ships must first traverse the notorious Bay of Biscay to reach destinations in Northern Spain such as Santander, A Coruña, Gijón, and Getxo for Bilbao.

Unpredictable weather conditions means the passage through the Bay of Biscay will either be incredibly calm or it will be viscously stormy. Occasionally, if the weather is too bad, ports of call have to be adjusted to factor in lost time, which could explain why mini cruises to Spain are so rare.
