Fred Olsen Balmoral Mini Cruise Taster – 15th May 2018
This extremely short cruise is perfect for those who are curious - but apprehensive - about booking a holiday on an ocean cruise ship.
Sample life aboard Fred. Olsen's flagship vessel, Balmoral, for just one night. Consider this cruise a 'try before you buy a longer trip' type scenario.
About this cruise
The cruise starts on Tuesday 15th May 2018 from Newcastle port. Make your way to the International Port in North Shields to the east of the city. Spend the afternoon touring the largest small ship in the Fred. Olsen fleet. The captain will set sail in the late afternoon.
You'll have an evening to explore everything this ship has to offer. Enjoy a delicious dinner, watch the live entertainment, enjoy a drink or two in the lounges and bars, and have a great night's sleep in a comfortable cabin. If you get a chance, take a dip in the pools and hot tubs, and I highly recommend a visit to the spa.
The following morning you will arrive in Rosyth, Scotland.
When booking online, you can book optional onward travel either before or after your cruise for a supplement. You can either book a seat on a coach from Rosyth port to Newcastle port before or after the cruise. You can, of course, make your own arrangements should you wish to spend some extra time in Edinburgh.
This really is a short and sweet cruise but it is perfect for sampling cruise life. If you've never been on a cruise ship, or never sailed with Fred. Olsen, this is a great excuse to give it a go without too much cost and without any commitment. If it's not for you, at least you gave it a go (an accomplishment many naysayers don't even manage). If you have an experience like mine on Balmoral, you'll be booking the next (much longer) cruise as soon as you get back home!
The itinerary for this mini cruise is:
|1||Tuesday 15th May 2018||Newcastle||Late afternoon|
|2||Wednesday 16th May 2018||Rosyth||Early morning|
Why choose this taster cruise?
- 1 night on Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines' biggest small ship, Balmoral
- Voyage L1811 departs on Tuesday 15th May 2018
- Enjoy an overnight cruise from Newcastle to Rosyth
- Perfect as a *very* brief taste of cruising the Fred. Olsen way
So you know, the map above shows point-to-point lines which may cross land. Don't worry, your cruise ship will not sprout legs and run across dry land. Instead it's water all the way! Mapping is approximate, and the scheduled times are estimates. Your trip is subject to change as, occasionally, operators have to alter itineraries due to bad weather or unforeseen events.
On Wednesday 14th February 2018, I found a starting price from £99 per person based on two sharing the cheapest cabin (usually this is an inside cabin).
Are there any extras?
This price normally includes some meals but excludes drinks, gratuities, optional shore excursions, and any applicable flights and transfers (if needed and if excluded). If you want a cabin or suite with a view, these come at a premium (if available).
Cruise prices are based on supply and demand so the more spare cabins there are closer to the sail date, the cheaper the prices often become. After all, no cruise line likes sailing with empty cabins and this cruise sails in 1 month.
I regularly check for price changes by hand, but as they can occur rapidly, please use the link below to get the latest prices.
Remember, prices were correct when I last checked, but may have since changed. Prices are usually based on two adults sharing the cheapest available cabin.
